PowerPoint is the Irish-market budget label sold through Irish retailers, and NordMende is a value label in the same game. Together they are fitted in Dublin rentals, house-shares, student lets and starter homes in huge numbers — Tallaght, Blanchardstown, Finglas, Clondalkin, wherever a landlord or a first-time buyer needed a machine at the lowest sensible price. There is no shame in that; these machines wash clothes perfectly well. The problems start when something big fails and a repair quote approaches what the machine cost new. That is where this page earns its keep: honest triage. We cover both badges on our washing machine repair Dublin round, trading since 1999, and landlords are half the calls — see our landlord repair service.
Standard faults — worth fixing all day
- Drain pumps. The number one call. Filters in rental machines are rarely cleaned, so pumps choke on hair, coins and lint or wear out. At €149–€199 fitted, a pump on a sound machine is money well spent. Checks first: our not draining guide.
- Door interlocks. Shared houses open and close that door all day, and locks get forced before they release. The cycle will not start, or stops and will not unlock. A standard fix inside the €149–€249 band.
- Drive belts. The motor hums, the drum does not turn — the belt has snapped or slipped, usually after an overloaded wash. One of the cheapest repairs there is; see drum not turning.
- Heating elements. Long, cold washes. Homes normally supplied by Leixlip at around 200 mg/L, and blended D12 and D22 homes at around 155 mg/L, scale budget-machine elements just as fast as premium ones. €179–€249 fitted.
The honest part: when a major is not worth it
Bearings or a main board on one of these machines is a major at €279–€420. Set that against what a new budget machine costs and the repair can be most of the price of a replacement with a full new warranty — on a machine whose other parts are the same age as the one that just failed. Our straight advice: standard faults, fix without hesitation; a major on a budget machine more than a few years old, think hard, and we will work the sums with you using our repair or replace guide. If the verdict is replace, you pay only the €79 call-out and you get the verdict in writing — which, for landlords, is exactly the paperwork a letting agent needs to approve a replacement.
Parts reality — patchy, and we say so
Pumps, belts, interlocks and elements for these labels are generic enough that availability is usually fine. Model-specific parts — boards, displays, trim — can be patchy, and for some older models simply unavailable at any sensible price. We check before we quote, and if a part cannot be got, we tell you on the first visit rather than leaving you waiting. Where a quality pattern part exists, we will offer it and say so. No second call-out charge if a part is ordered and we return to fit it.
What happens on the visit — for tenants and landlords
The routine is the same as for any brand: ring 645 465-6305, give us the model if you can find it inside the door, and the engineer diagnoses, gives a fixed written price, and only then works. Tenants: your job is to report the fault and any code to your letting agent promptly — under the rented housing standards the landlord provides the machine and keeps it in working order, so a fault reported late, with water sitting in the drum for a week, helps nobody. Landlords and agents: we arrange access with the tenant, do the diagnosis in one visit, and if the verdict is replace rather than repair, that verdict is in writing for the property file, so a replacement can be approved without another call-out. A practical Dublin point for house-shares: most of the pump faults we see on these labels come from filters that have never been cleaned in the life of the machine. A two-minute filter clean every few months, which our not draining guide walks through, prevents the single most common call-out on this page.
