Soft water in the south - and what it changes
Much of South Dublin is normally supplied by Ballymore Eustace, at around 50 mg/L, which is soft water. Soft water is kind to heating elements and drums, so we see fewer scale failures here than in the Leixlip-supplied west and north-west. But soft water brings its own issues: detergent foams more easily, so overdosing leaves soap residue through clothes and fabrics, triggers excess-suds behaviour and can cause leaks from the drawer. Use less detergent than the box suggests for a soft water area, and run a monthly hot maintenance wash to clear residue and keep germs down in the drum and seal. The coastal strip around Dun Laoghaire is normally supplied by a Vartry and Ballymore blend at around 75 mg/L, still soft, while the D12 and D22 side sits on a blended supply at around 155 mg/L, so Crumlin and Clondalkin homes see moderate scaling over time. Apartment leak urgency in Sandyford and Leopardstown
The D18 corridor has thousands of apartments, and apartments are 27 percent of Dublin households. In a block, a washing machine leak is never just your problem: water finds the ceiling of the flat below within the hour.
